Project Based Learning at Sage Canyon Elementary School

Every parent wants the best education possible for their kids, and it all begins with elementary school. Terrain residents don’t have to drive across thecity or spend a small fortune on private schools in order to get a quality education.

Douglas County School District, which includes Castle Rock, is one of the top performing school districts in the state, and Terrain residents have a fantastic elementary school in their neighborhood that is easy walking distance from any home: Sage Canyon Elementary.

Serving grades K-6, Sage Canyon distinguishes itself through Project Based Learning (PBL). PBL is a learning approach that fosters independence and critical thinking skills by equipping and empowering kids to learn how to tackle and solve problems. Rather than learning straight from a book, a variety of topics and issues are brought together through the process of completing a project, often in a small group setting. Research shows that this learning approach fosters better retention, and kids benefit from learning how to work in cooperation with others.

Sage Canyon boasts an impressive collection of tech resources, but students are also introduced to natural life cycles through gardening and raising chickens. Wrangler Park is next door, so it’s easy for classes to take advantage of the extensive trails and open space that characterize Terrain.

Once kids have completed the 6th grade, they have more excellent options just a short distance away in Mesa Middle School and Douglas County High School.

Whether your kids are already enrolled in school or it’s still a few years away, it’s always a good time to come visit Terrain and see what options open up for your family when you live next door to quality schools. Come tour our model homes today!
