ORIGIN OF THE CASTLE ROCK STAR

    Tuesday, November 26, 2013
ORIGIN OF THE CASTLE ROCK STAR

Every year since 1936, the people of Castle Rock have gathered to celebrate the lighting of our famous holiday star. The star was designed by engineers from the Works Progress Administration and erected by the crews of local fire departments.

For a community just beginning to emerge from the lean years of the Great Depression, this brightly-lit structure served as a 45-foot monument to hope and the spirit of the season.

For more than 70 years, its light has been a beacon for weary travelers and inspired pride in the local community. As we gathered together for this year’s lighting ceremony, we looked forward to another season of inspiration for the community we call home.
