    Terrain Amenities and Local Attractions

The perfect blend of outdoor adventure and urban entertainment.

Terrain is located midway between Denver and Colorado Springs in a valley along the front range of the majestic Rocky Mountains. This allows residents easy access to both large cities, plenty of open space, and the Colorado mountains. Our community is also only 5 minutes from downtown Castle Rock, which was ranked as one of the best places to live by Money magazine and awarded a livability score of 79 from Livability.com.

The Great Outdoors, Just Outside Your Front Door

If you love to hike, bike, run, swim, ski, raft or climb, while still appreciating the amenities of urban life, Terrain just might be your Shangri-La. When you live here, everything Colorado has to offer is literally right outside your front door.

Secluded within a large valley, nearly 600 acres of Terrain is dedicated for parks, open space and the preservation of historical markers. A large trail network connects Terrain’s neighborhoods to several parks, swimming pools, schools and open spaces. The trail system allows residents to explore diverse landforms, rugged outcroppings and historic landmarks as it weaves through hidden vistas and places ideal for observing local wildlife.

Amenities and Attractions at Terrain Castle Rock

What’s more, Terrain sits right in the middle of The Colorado Front Range Trail, a large paved trail system that will eventually stretch from the Wyoming border all the way to New Mexico. That means that our own trail network not only connects our entire community – we also have ready access to trailheads at Woodlands Bowl, Hidden Mesa and Gateway Mesa Open Space and the Castlewood Canyon National Park.

The Woodlands Bowl Conservation Easement is just a few minutes away from Terrain by trail. Although this preserved natural open space is only 28 acres, it’s a key part of the Castle Rock trail system. Recent conservation efforts have ensured that this piece of land will remain open for public recreational use for generations to come.

Hidden Mesa and Gateway Mesa Open Space constitute over 1200 acres of preserved natural land and are connected to Terrain’s open trail system. This protected land is an oasis of largely undisturbed native habitats with grasslands, shrub lands, forested areas, meadows, wetland ponds, and gorgeous woodlands along the Cherry Creek. It’s a great place to observe local area wildlife, including pronghorns, wild turkeys, elk, mule deer, and hundreds of species of birds.

Several miles of natural trails wind through the area, moving along and crossing over the Cherry Creek, winding up to the top of mesas, looping around viewpoints, rock outcroppings, cliffs, pine forests and meadows.

Castlewood Canyon National Park is less than a 20 minute drive from Terrain and a favorite destination for anyone seeking outdoor adventure. Trails ranging from mild to moderately difficult allow hikers, runners, cross country skiers and those on snowshoes to explore the Cherry Creek canyon floor, enjoying the area’s natural diversity and rich geological history.

The park contains several family picnic areas as well as natural amphitheaters and canyon overlook gazebos that provide unique places for weddings and other outdoor ceremonies.

    Castle Rock Parks and Recreation

With its beautiful trails, well-planned parks, and abundant open space, this town was built for active people. Castle Rock contains 20 well-maintained developed parks, about 5,800 acres of open space and nearly 75 miles of trails.

In addition, the town boasts an 84,000-square-foot Recreation Center and the newly built 60,000-square-foot Miller Activity Complex.

Swimming pools and water slides, racquetball courts, fitness classes, a vast selection of weight machines and cardiovascular equipment, room rentals and even art and pottery classes – the Castle Rock Recreation Center offers a wide variety of amenities and programs for residents of all ages.

Called the “crowning jewel” of the 270-acre Philip S. Miller Park, The Miller Activity Complex is a large two-story recreational facility with a swim park, party rooms, batting cages, children’s playgrounds, an 18-hole golf simulator, trampolines, and full- and half-sized indoor synthetic sports fields.

Castle Rock is also home to the beautiful award wining 18-hole Red Hawk Ridge Golf Course. Nestled along the front range of the Rocky Mountains, the rolling terrain offer golfers dramatic elevation changes, spectacular mountain views, and crystal clear lakes. With five sets of tees, the course is a favorite for players of all skill levels.

    Shopping

Antique shops, designer boutiques, specialty stores, and gourmet grocers, the shops of Castle Rock have the small town charm, unique selection, and friendly sales staff to create a pleasant and productive shopping experience we love.

And, if you can’t find what you’re looking for in historic downtown Castle Rock, the Outlets at Castle Rock (Colorado’s fourth top tourist destination) are just a few minutes up the road.

    Restaurants and Entertainment

Castle Rock may be a small town, but our restaurant and entertainment options include some of the best in the state. From bistros to brew pubs, day spas to movie theaters, concerts in the park to a quiet day in the library, there’s something here for every whim and craving.

Castle Rock is home to a wide variety of community events all year long, from health fairs to summer concerts and winter festivals. For a complete list of upcoming community events, visit the town’s website.

Famished after a long day on the trails or busy day at work? Celebrating a special occasion? Castle Rock is home to a wide variety of great restaurants for any occasion. Here is just a small sample…

Craving brick-oven pizza? Check out Siena at the Courtyard in downtown Castle Rock for delicious pizza and other fresh Italian dishes.

If traditional Mexican tacos is more your style, you’ll want to check out Yolanda’s Tacos. Yolanda’s offers up some of the best traditional Mexican food this side of Mexico, with plenty of fresh ingredients and the best salsa in town.

Looking for some down-home comfort food served with a side of Castle Rock history? Since the 1890s, Castle Café has been cooking up food for hungry workers, ranchers and travelers in the Castle Rock area. It’s still an icon of the town today, serving up juicy, pan-fried chicken with all the trimmings including mashed potatoes and homemade rolls.

Another favorite restaurant rich with Castle Rock history is The Old Stone Church Restaurant. Built in 1888, it operated as a church until the mid 1960s and was converted into a restaurant in 1975. Even the confessional has been transitioned into a table for two.

Looking for a good American cheeseburger and fries? Crave burgers has a burger for everyone, from traditional cheeseburgers to concoctions that stretch the imagination – like a burger served on glazed donuts instead of a bun.

All of this and more is why we love living in Terrain – it’s both nature and city, work and play, adventure and leisure.
